Lions Clubs International is a global service organization with over 1.4 million members in more than 200 countries and geographic areas. It was founded in 1917 by Melvin Jones in Chicago.
The organization focuses on community service, addressing needs such as childhood cancer, diabetes, disaster relief, the environment, hunger, and vision impairment. The Torrington Lions Club, for example, is active in Torrington, Connecticut, and hosts events like the Holiday Craft and Gift Fair, Citywide Tag Sale Extravaganza, Golf Tournament, Main Street Car show and more. They also support local and International non-profits, grant local scholarships and help those in need. Membership is a worthwhile experience for the individual as well as a benefit to the community. |
